Talking The Walks - Where Leads the Road?

July 26, 2008, 6.00 p.m.

Max Mueller Bhavan
CMH Road, Indiranagar
Bangalore.

We are happy to announce a Panel Discussion on Urban Change in Bangalore that will bring together two related projects - the current exhibition on display at the Bhavan, Urban Changes - An Exhibition of Photography, and the four Bangalore City Project Urban Space Events (or BCP City Walks as they are popularly known). The Panel will be moderated by Ramachandra Guha.

Telling portraits of Urban Change in India - the photo exhibition by Clare Arni, Vivek M. and Mahesh Shantaram from Bangalore and Sohail Abdullah from Pakistan, dealing with change in Indian cities as perceived by these South Asian photographers, offers the ideal backdrop to debate the experiences and issues arising out of the recently concluded BCP City Walks - in Gavipuram, Whitefield, Old City and Hessarghatta. We are fortunate to have the organizers of the walks on the panel and equally privileged to have Ramachandra Guha to moderate the discussion.

Talking the Walks - where leads the road? serves as a wrap-up of the BCP Urban Space Events and is also designed to offer a forum for all the participants of the walks who will have an opportunity to interact and exchange views, ideas and suggestions with like-minded people. The discussion is however expected to go beyond the Bangalore City Project itself and into the realm of how to address urban change, especially in the light of the disappearance of public spaces and heritage, and perhaps create a vision as to where it could and should lead.

Panelists:
Dr. Chandra Shekar Balachandran - cultural geographer and Director, Indian Institute for Geographical Studies
Champaka Rajagopal - urban planner
Krupa Rajangam - conservation architect, UDBHAVA volunteer
Sathya Prakash Varanashi - architect and founder of UDBHAVA
Suresh Jayaram - artist, art critic and art historian
S.Vishwanath - Rainwater Harvesting Club and Arghyam

We invite you to attend the Panel Discussion and cover the proceedings. This is an open event, so please do invite your friends and other interested people.
